The information regarding our statutory consultation to change all bus lanes on the TfL road network to 24/7 operation. For Croydon this would apply to Stafford Road and London Road.
Trial of proposed changes will make bus journeys faster and more reliable, as well as provide additional space for people to safely cycle on the busiest roads in London. We want to create more space for people to walk and cycle safely, while also making sure the people who need to travel by public transport can do so safely, efficiently and reliably.

Our trial proposing to extend bus lanes to 24/7 will mean the same priority will be given to buses on their journey whether it’s at 9am in the morning, or at 9pm in the evening. As the city starts moving again, people are changing the times at which they choose to travel to avoid peak times and the risk of overcrowding the network. Adapting operating hours for bus lanes would support these vital changes in travel behaviours, and support those who can cycle to do so safely.

The trial of 24/7 bus lanes will take place over a minimum six month period. At the end of the trial, we’ll decide which bus lanes should be permanently changed to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your feedback will be critical to ensuring our evaluation considers all the benefits and impacts, and that bus travel plays a vital role in London’s recovery.
